I got the original PlayStation at launch in the UK by going halves with my brother. We got a memory card and Ridge Racer, which I finished the same day. It also came with a demo disk that had an interactive T-Rex, and a demo for Loaded among other games. I think there was a video for WipeOut maybe too.
I’m pretty sure I rented this game from Blockbuster not long after. Like Ridge Racer, this is a really short and easy game that is absolutely full of charm and was technically incredible at the time. It’s a platforming game played in first person, you’re a little robot that not only has a very high jump but can also triple jump.
Playing this again now, I wonder how much this game came up in discussions during development of Metroid Prime. The controls, although much simpler are really quite similar. Even the character looking down during jumping is in Metroid Prime I think.
I’ve never played the sequel, which I think I should correct. Apparently it also had a Japan only sequel called Robbit Mon Dieu which I’ve only just discovered.
