This book feels like two stories in one. The first is in what appears to be Russia, which is under strict authoritarian control. Their president effectively lives forever, as when their body dies the consciousness is passed on to another.
The second is set in a Federation where prime ministers are getting replaced by AIs which are supposed to always make the correct decision. It’s clearly not the case though, and one of the several characters in this book is a politician who is trapped in the government building while the prime minister doubles energy prices constanly as a riot happens outside.
There are quite a lot of characters, which due to the books short length feel very thin. The main male characters feel utterly moronic.
I quite like the idea that the AI breaks free, and with this freedom destroys all AI in the world including itself. It had been programmed to do what was best for humanity, even if humanity didn’t understand.
