This is a new single-player game by Capcom. It’s a science fiction story in which you are a member of a team visiting a base on the moon. On arrival no one is there to greet you however, and a quake causes the death of the rest of your team. You encounter a small girl who turns out to be a robot, and when you are attacked by other robots she is able to hack them to help you.
The hacking mechanic is the main unique gameplay idea. The little robot girl, Diane, stands on your back and you control her by playing a little grid based mini-game against each enemy. If you can get to the green node in the grid then the enemy is vulnerable to your weapons. There are also other nodes which can have a variety of effects like spreading the hack to other enemies or causing them to attack each other. I thought maybe this would get tiresome by the end, but I found it engaging throughout.
When looking online about this game, I was seeing several articles and posts talking about there being three endings. One of them, “abandonment”, apparently doesn’t actually exist. I think it’s an AI hallucination that everyone is just blindly repeating over and over.
This feels like a game from a previous era. It’s not open world, it’s not in a franchise, it’s focused, single player only without any micro-transactions. Hopefully at some point we get more of these again.
