Boscastle Museum of Witchcraft is a fascinating place. It’s right on the harbour of Boscastle.
Granny or Anne Boswell was born in 1823 in Ireland and came to England in the 1840s. She married, had at least six children, and based herself in Helston. Granny Boswell was a powerful and well known witch, feared and mistrusted by some, and yet hundreds of locals turned out for her funeral.
“Not much to look at. Just another skull of a dead animal, correct, but in this case it has the added interest of being recovered from a rock shrine high up on the scree slopes of Brown Willy on Bodmin moor. This moorland shrine was maintained by three so-called witches residing in the Camelford area, the shrine was dismantled in 1967 after the last of this trio of strange ladies passed away.”
Cecil Williamson, founder of the museum
This wand was given to W.B. Crow by Aleister Crowley. Crow was a member of Crowley’s organisation, the OTO and Crowley made him a patriarch of the Gnostic Catholic Church, the section of the OTO dedicated to performing Crowley’s Gnostic mass.
This unhallmarked chalice was donated by the local artist Peter Pracownik and was purchased from a sale of items belonging to Aleister Crowley.
