This is a remake of the second Yakuza game, but it is the third game chronologically. I completed Yakuza 0 about the same time last year and very much enjoyed it. I also played the original Kiwami game years ago. I think this series has absolutely clicked with me now. I very much enjoyed this one.
This time the Tojo Clan are in a very poor state after the events of the original game, and the new chairman is trying to create a pact with the rival Omi Alliance based in Osaka. Everything goes wrong, and the adopted son of the chairman of the Omi Alliance kidnaps his father and stages a coup. He plans to destroy the Tojo clan, and run a group that covers the whole of Japan. He uses a Korean mafia group that are out for revenge for a vicious attack carried out by the Dojima family twenty-six years ago.
Kiryu is taken into police custody by a female police officer in Osaka, who is investigating the events taking place and also has a personal reason to look into what happened with the Korean mafia. She and Kiryu develop a relationship through the game, and fall in love by the end.
The ending of the game was crazy with its sheer amount of double-crossing and surprises. It was very much like a Metal Gear Solid plot. Iām definitely not going to leave it as long to play Yakuza 3.
