The Fred West Tapes - Howard Sounes

Books I've Read

I knew a little about Fred and Rose west before reading this, I remember seeing the house in Gloucester on the news when I was a child. This book is the first I’ve read about them, it’s written by someonen who was a journalist at the time and was reporting on the case. It prominantly features extracts of the interviews that Fred West gave to the police during their investigations.

Fred is clearly manipulative and is lying the whole time. One of the main things that stuck with me is the amount of other people that are clearly involved in what happened. There must be countless people in Gloucester that were at least aware or involved in the abuse, if not the murders themselves.

The book is harrowing, I just felt such an incredible sadness about everything in it.
