I just finished Yakuza 0 on the Steam Deck. You play as Kazama Kiryu who gets accused of a murder he didn’t commit, and Goro Majima who is being forced to run a cabaret club and is not allowed to leave his city. The game is really long, both characters stories could be a stand-alone game. They end up tying together in a really interesting way I didn’t see coming though.
Stuff about Games I've Completed
I hadn’t played this in a very long time. I remembered feeling a bit let down after Sonic 2, and I think that probably still stands. It’s a great game, but the levels are too long and the ending is a bit anti-climactic. I managed to get all the chaos emeralds tough, the bonus levels get very hard!
I got Arcade Paradise from a Humble Bundle this year, and just got around to playing it. I had never heard of the game before and had no idea what it was like. The game is a first person business simulation where you’re running a laundromat that happens to have some arcade machines in the back room. At first you’re just trying to keep up with emptying coin machines and the loads of laundry coming in, but as you get more money you can invest in more arcade machines.
I played Chants of Sennaar on Steam Deck after buying it on a whim. It’s a wonderful adventure game about communication. There are multiple groups of people in the world each of which speak a different language, you can’t understand any of them and none of the groups can speak to each other.
I finished Klonoa today, I played it on the Switch as a part of the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series collection.
Wonderful Dizzy was released in 2020 for the ZX Spectrum. It is the eighth game in the Dizzy series, the first original one since Crystal Kingdom Dizzy in 1992. It’s based on the Wizard of Oz, and was made by The Oliver Twins.
TJ’s Cavern Capers is a ZX Spectrum game from the end of last year by Gaz Marshall, you can download it here. It’s dedicated to some YouTuber that I hadn’t heard of, I’ll go check some of his videos. It’s a simple single screen collection platformer like Manic Miner. There are 20 levels where you need to collect all of the flashing items and avoid the monsters. The controls are really responsive and you have a very high jump, it reminds me a little of Batman on the GameBoy. I thought it was really fun.
The Goblin is a new ZX Spectrum game by hicks, you can download it here. You play a little goblin jailer trying to return escaped demons to their cells. You don’t have any weapons though, and have to use the power of your belches after you’ve drunk some beer.
Dan Dare III: The Escape is a 1990 ZX Spectrum game by Probe Software. It was programmed by Dave Perry, with art by Nick Bruty. They went on to make Cool Spot, Aladdin, and Earthworm Jim among other games at Virgin Games and Shiny Entertainment.
I just beat the first Mega Man for the NES.
I just completed Phantasy Star, an RPG by Sega for the Master System released in 1988. It has a bright and colourful sci-fi setting, blue skies, space ports, and laser swords.
I don’t know what’s going on in Axiom Verge yet, but there’s some fantastic horror sci-fi pixel art.
