2024

Here’s a summary of the things I wrote about in 2024.

Games

I think 2024 was the first year for as long as I can remember that I didn’t play a newly released game. I’ve never felt as uninterested in everything being released. I can’t imagine that will be the same this year as the Switch 2 is being released.

I completed a lot of games that I’d played before but had abandoned for some reason. Killer 7, Dragon Quest XI, Papers, Please, Spelunky, and Celeste were all excellent.

I started the year by playing Yakuza 0, something I’ve repeated this year. I’m hoping to play through them much faster to catch up to the latest releases.

I played through Final Fantasy III, the last Final Fantasy mainline game that I had never finished. There are several spin offs I never played though like Final Fantasy X-2 that I’d like to get around to.

I enjoyed going through some older games for retro achievements, Eternal Darkness, and Panzer Dragoon Saga where both wonderful to return to and see things I’d missed the first time around.

Recipes

I only did a few recipes this year. I’ve gone back to all three several times though. I’ll try to think of some other simple recipes that I should write down.

Discworld

I re-read several Discworld books this year. The very early, and very late books in the series are clearly not as good as the middle chunk for different reasons but I enjoyed each of them.

Exeter Dystopian Novels Book Club

Several very good picks for books this year, Prophet Song in particular I thought was excellent. I missed two meetups, both times for work reasons.

Other Books

I also read a few political books, two classics, and a non-fiction book about AI. I think I’d like to read more politics books this year, but less current ones.
